The earliest written references to the estate date back to 1759, and its magnificent old vineyards, planted post-phylloxera, are now reaching the impressive age of one century.

Quinta das Carvalhas is the oldest and most emblematic property of Real Companhia Velha. Due to its vast historical heritage and an intense and rational requalification, it now represents the best of what we have and can produce.

Jorge Moreira is one of the most renowned Portuguese winemakers, with projects in the Douro and Dão regions. He began working with Quinta das Carvalhas in 1996, taking on the role of Technical Director in 2010. He was part of a group of young winemakers and producers who, at the turn of the millennium, transformed the Douro region and helped establish the global recognition of DOC Douro wines. He was the key figure behind the creation of the DOC Douro wine Quinta das Carvalhas Vinhas Velhas.

Álvaro began his professional career in 1997 at Quinta das Carvalhas. He was responsible for the major transformation of the estate’s viticulture at the turn of the millennium and is now one of the most important figures in Douro viticulture.
